I WAS invited to this one, but didn't go anyway

The Society of Authors had their AGM on Monday and were hosting a debate entitled 'How to get the best out of agents and publishers.'

I signed up for it before the envelope was fully opened. Right up my alley, I reckoned.

But ... I didn't make it. G was working, FB was swimming, LG's too young to be home alone.

If anyone out there went, could you possibly pass on any useful tips?

Ideas on how to coordinate the various strands of my life, inc parenting and writing, would also be gratefully received.

A bit overloaded are you? :-)
And I echo the call you made!

I was thinking of going too, but didn't in the end. I think they sometimes write it up somewhere - possibly on-line or in the Author...I'll keep a look out and let you know if I see anything.

I have missed, and continue to miss, so many events for similar reasons. You really can't have it all, can you, so you have to prioritise. Bet your family appreciate it, though.

Maxine is right, she has my DNA ethos there. Whatever the media tells us and however many wealthy women proclaim it - women can't have it all! There is only so much time in the world and it's up to us how we spend it. It's a different currency to actual money, if only some knew and appreciated that fact.

In one way a woman can have it all, but it's up to her how she divides up the portions to make life manageable and realistic. However hard we try, no human being, male or female can ever experience the "whole cake" from birth to death.

Demands hit from all spots for a woman. The key is recognising the important values and prioritising accordingly.

Family is key.

And I don't feel the need to elaborate at this juncture. Debi and Maxine prove the point. Sacrifices may be made, but so be it! It's all about priorities and real LIFE!

Consider yourself a 'non-party animal' for a few years Debi. Think yourself lucky, my friends are considering a memorial service for me because I've been out of circulation for so long!!

...and don't worry, before you know it the Feckers will have discovered women and your life will be back to normal.

Also wanted to add that I'm quite looking forward to this 'launch' business - I'll get to do some sort of public drinking again!!

Thanks all.

Aty and Clare - my mind's abuzz with the missed potential - imagine if we had all gone and met up? A chicken, a snail keeper and a 10 toed sloth ...

Maxine - lovely to see you. It's been a while. I do prioritise the writers' group. Can I tempt you???

Cfr and Minx - wise words, my friends.
