Blogger in distress!

I can't sort this bloody spam problem. It looks like another squad, as well as Spamcop, are bouncing me back now. I'm getting all these 'message can't be delivered' emails coming through re mail I sent over a week ago and assumed had got through. If you're cussing me for not contacting you, it ain't me, honest guv - society is to blame ...

Each time I try to email my ISP - guess what - the email bounces back! Maybe someone is using my email address and password to send spam, having harvested the info from when I had the Trojan back in July? It's possible - esp as the (un)help pages for my ISP inform me I'm unable to change my password!!!

I really hate this stuff. It takes far too much time and energy ...

Any suggestions? Would going over to Google mail thingy sort this out? Or is it too late as I've already been branded a spam-sending scuzz bucket???

Hi Debi,

In case you're wondering, I received the email you sent me on Sunday. I replied too.

I wish I knew what to suggest but I'm useless at this stuff.

Hope you sort it out soon.

Marie x

Have you checked for new trojans - the bloody things are constantly lurking out there looking for a way to activate - and they're getting sneakier and more difficult to trace.
You might end up having to do a complete reinstall.
OMG - I heard that scream all the way over here!
Good luck sorting it out, Debi.

Hi Debi,
I got your mail. Thanks for the visit. And I hope you stick to all those resolutions. They sound really noble, and bloody hard. Especially the one about the kids :-((

I'll send you a google mail invite, it may help you in the intervening period!
Not sure about the bigger issue though! Sorry I can't help on that.
And thanks for the email I did receive today/yesterday to say you'd sent something else and assumed it had got through, but bounced back after a week.

Well, that's it isn't it?
You've got Overmail Syndrome. Someone from a big corporation is sending you spam to stop you spending the day emailing the whole bloody world!!

I was going to offer to send you a gmail invite until I saw CrimeFic had got there first. I get quite a bit of spam in gmail but it is always (almost always) tucked away by the system into a special spam inbox so you never see it or have to look at it (automatically deletes after 30 days).
However, I can't understand if switching to gmail would help your particular problem. I do know that gmail has this function where you can bounce emails into another account into the gmail account, so you can automatically redirect emails into your current account. This would mean that any spam goes into the gmail spam window.

Someone at work told me about a spam filter you can use that stops the recipient thinking you are spam. It would be impractical to use it at work as we all send out about 3000 emails a day, but if I can find the details I will email them to you ===hope they don't come bouncing back ;-)

Good luck with it all, what a pain for you.

I received the mail you sent me the other day, too. Can't remember whether or not I replied. Did I? My short-term memory's shot - too much weed in my younger years (a-hem) and too much TPN now.

I do sympathise, though. I had the same kind of problem a couple of years ago. The only trouble is, I can't for the life of me remember how I dealt with it.

Hi - you need to invest in a decent spam filter McAffee or something like that but there's no guarantees. Good luck!

Thanks all. I'm working up to trying the gmail stuff after the w/e.

Have sent various emails out that I know didn't arrive. Saaleha - I replied to your lovely one but I know you didn't receive it. Hopefully by now we're sufficiently in tune that you know what it would have said! (The words 'respect' and 'love' would have featured heavily!)

Good to see you back, IM. I was getting worried ... I am so top heavy with anti-virus/spyware etc software not sure if I can handle McAffee too - also sometimes they're not compatable ...

MD does not recommend McAffee as it runs in the background all the time and is a bastard to remove completely. But each to his own, what works for some etc. We run with Panda but had trouble at first when we went 'wireless' - okay now though.

Btw, two mails came back today but the third got to you! I won't give up!

yeah I didn't get your response. But I'm sure we're on the same wavelength now.

Hello debi, thanks for the visit...even if it was enforced!
Just wondered, is you spyware/ anti virus the sort that updates daily? Have you contacted your ISP about not being able to change your password....cos it does sound like someone might have got there hooks into your pc.

working on it ... working on it ...

Thanks for advice, blogmates.

Think this is residual problem from old Trojan back in July harvesting my passwords as I couldn't change the one for email. Just done that by phone which HOPEFULLY should sort ...
