If I never earn a single penny more from writing ...
If I never get another deal ...
If there are no further royalties or sales of translation rights ...
If all hopes of tv series or movie spinoffs evaporate into the ether ...
If every single one of my books is pulped and recycled as celeb biogs ...
If every publisher across the globe ...
... small and large ...
... past, present or future ...
... is warned never to let this woman (that's me - pay attention now) step across their threshold ...
What happened yesterday would be enough.
First Born's class were instructed to research an author online and construct a body of work using their own words and copy and paste.
FB chose ...
... me.
The other kids were blown away.
'That's your mum?'
'That's really cool.'
'Your mum's bad, man.'
'Yeah. She's well sick, bro.'
They didn't ask how many copies I'd sold.
Or when my next books would be published.
Or why they hadn't been so far.
Or why they'd never heard of me.
All they saw was an author.
With books and a website and everything.
And she's FB's mum!
Can you imagine how proud he felt?
Can you imagine how proud I felt?
Of him.
And of me too.
For being able to give him that.
What a gift for us both.

That's great, Debi!
It's lovely when it happens like that! You turn from being 'just' Mum, into 'my Mum is a writer'
Enjoy the buzz! :)))
Yay!!
I was always dead proud of my mum being an author. I would tell anyone that would listen. And it didn't matter that she wasn't famous and hardly anyone had ever heard of her. It was/is still cool.
You're right, Debi. This is satisfaction. (I won't tell you what mine think of my writing...)
I found out, after the event, that Big Fecker had made an announcement in his 'A' level english class that me book had been published. I have also received emails from Little Feckers classmates when they were researching real, live authors - that's me! Very emotional, very tearful - twas me Oscar - the Feckers was proud of their old mum.
That's great! Congratulations on your "discovery" by your own FB.
I could have told you that you're cool without all the hullabaloo. But it probably wouldn't mean as much. Congratulations Debi.
I hate labels (have you noticed?) - being called a 'writer' is the first one that actually says anything at all about me.
Oooh - I feel another post coming on ...
I could say some things about you - but you did ut all in the interview - yer up Alper!
Awww. I can see the big proud smiles from here. Sweet!
Do I see a muon of hope for me here? (Back later: just off to have some kids.)
I was wondering why the sun suddenly burst through here at 11.01 yesterday!
Steve - you is a writer. Big time. I'm proud of you - will that do?
Folks - I'm halfway through Steve's book, Fisher of Devils. It's wonderful - no exaggeration - hysterically funny, intelligent to the point of being learned, heartbreakingly sad, irreverent yet spiritual ... Can't say more. Just read it. You'll thank me and praise him!
What a lovely experience for mum, son and fellow pupils! Eyes have been opened and pride is immense. So be it. It's about time the good was celebrated.
Enjoy the moment Debi, I'm sure it will last with you for years to come.
It must be truly uplifting. A moment you'll both treasure.
I had a minor tremor, myself when the big one put one of my paintings in his room...I'd always assumed complete indifference. What a lot I am still learning from that boy!
I had goose bumps reading that, Debi! Lovely lovely lovely moment. It must make it all worthwhile! :)
What a wonderful post.
