Congratulations! You're a winner!

Hey you! Yes, I'm talking to you! Did you know you've been named as Person of the Year by Time magazine?

According to Lev Grossman, technology writer at Time,

'It's about the many wresting power from the few and helping one another for nothing and how that will not only change the world, but also change the way the world changes.

For seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game, Time's Person of the Year for 2006 is you.'

We always knew how powerful we are and the potential this offers. Now it seems we're getting wider acknowledgement.

But we should never forget that with power comes responsibility. So it may be as well to reflect on Time's choice of winner in 1938 - one Adolf Hitler.

As pleased as I am any time someone tells me I am one of those who are "helping one another for nothing" (OK, not counting those little Amazon and AdSense ads on my blog) or that I am changing the way the world changes, or that I am not just founding the new digital democracy, but framing it, too, Grossman needs to stop hyperventilating before he sits down at his keyboard. His giddy triumphalism carries him far, far beyond the bounds of reality. Or is reality just so "old media"?

I like his reference to "the pros." What does Lev Grossman think he is? It's like Rush Limbaugh and Bill Riley, with their mass-circulation radio and TV shows complaining about those liberals who run the media.

Not only Adolf Hitler but WG Bush, and the Ayatollah Humeni(sp?) - with such dubious company he can have my 55 millionth bit back.
