Revealing my inner anorak

Many many moons ago, a friend told me about a woman she worked with.

'You're not gonna believe this,' she said. 'She files her clothes! She's got her whole wardrobe colour-coded! Says it helps her find what she wants, co-ordinate her 'look' and she can always find the empty hanger. How sad is that???'

'Blimey,' I said outwardly.

'Blimey,' I said inwardly. 'What a brilliant idea!'

I went home and rearranged my wardrobe and it's stayed that way ever since.

I like creating a semblance of order, especially at times I feel things are slipping beyond my control. October has always been a difficult month for me and the time of my greatest sorrows.

So excuse me. I'm off now to sort my blogroll into alphabetical order ...

Clothes are supposed to co-ordinated? Who says?

There's another way of organising a wardrobe: things you can actually get into - close at hand; things that may take a couple of months or so or WW's diet following - not so close at hand; the really "fat chance" garment brigade (but you remain ever hopeful) - in the wardrobe in the corner that requires the removal of other things to get near it. That's an example of wardrobe organisation chez crimefic!
The colour blind may also choose to pursue this option...

now that's a system i can relate to crimeficreader, trouble is, my pile in the corner has the most clothes in!

What a grand idea. I feel the need to have a sort and clear out.
And I daren't sort out my blogroll - the mood I'm in will probably result in a deleted blog!

I've read about this colour-codedness, too. But as a sartorially challenged person, can you advise, Debi--- are you supposed to put all the clothes of the same colour next to each other, starting at red and going all the way through to violet, with black and white kind of hanging off the end? And if so, or even if not, what do you do about coordination? I have this vague idea that it is all about coordination, and that certain colours are supposed to "go" with certain other colours -- and you shouldn't wear all of one colour.
Any advice?
You don't actually need to, really, becauase I realise that all my clothes seem to be pretty much the same colour! But I am curious, I have to admit! I've always wanted to be stylish, but could never be bothered to put in the time or research.

Welcome, Elizabeth. Funny the things that stop us writing ...

Marie - think you need to MOVE your wardrobe!

Minx - no rules re co-ordination. What goes with what is entirely personal. And that shocking pink floppy hat looks GORgeous with those orange hotpants, darling ...

Cfr and Confy - practical, but not as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as that rainbow row in my wardrobe ...

Maxine - you DO have style! It's your own and not what Trinny and Susannah or others of their shallow ilk would suggest. As for the colour-coding - have to admit much of mine is shades of black through grey and back to black again ...

You're right, Debi. I need to MOVE it fast. That's why it's a mess anyway. Haven't had much time to do much since my mind's been on other stuff lately.

I can't believe this, but...your post brought my OCD straight to the fore, and I tidied my wardrobe instead of going to the pub this afternoon.
Must be the oestrogen in the drinking water!

Wish I was like that. Am a bit more basic in the wardrobe department go for the washed and ironed. Ok am complusive fibber mainly just washed, but the Columbo look suits me and isn't cheese cloth going to make a come back!

Well that's done it! I'm gonna have to file my clothes when I get home, too! And the CDs, DVDs, contents of the fridge/freezer and the dust bunnies lurking under the bed.

You wasn't wearing black when I met you! Or are you talking autumn/winter wardrobe here?
