On my balcony ...

... there are plump red tomatoes ...
... a huge runner bean plant, grown from seed by Little Guy at school and brought home in a paper cup ...
... rosemary, chives, thyme, bay leaves ...
... lots of flowers, many of them self-seeded (the answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind)

And a pesky squirrel, who digs up the soil and chucks it about to bury its nuts.

I saw it last week when I looked out of the window.
It stared back at me defiantly. (It did! I swear it did!)
And it was nibbling on a ... crab shell!

Was it red or grey? I'd guess grey; they are particularly defiant...

Definitely grey. And definitely defiant. I haven't seen red squirrels since I was a kid.

Yesterday it knocked off 2 tomatoes and kicked earth all over the place.

This means war ...

You put me to shame, Alper. I have a whole garden but have grown nothing but mint, chives and parsley. How bad is that? I really need to clear at least a bit of it ready for next year so that I can get some more pots out there without them getting swamped by waist high 'wild flora'.

We used to have a squirrel in the garden too. One year it dug up all my daffodil bulbs and buried them in a corner. The next day Richard laid the foundation for our shed in that corner. Take that, you little bugger!

rivergirlie - I always thought squirrels were cute. Now I accept that they're really just rats with fluffy tails.

Leslie - argh! The squirrels are taking over the world ...

Sharon - but then you had no daffodils the following year so the squirrel got the last laugh after all.
