Thatstupidbloodybusinesswiththe tax ...

Remember the outrage and terror induced by the article in the Sunday Times re whether agents' fees are tax deductable?
This is the response from the ever watchful Society of Authors that puts it all into proportion.

Hi Debi,

Richard & Judy did win their case on the basis that they classify as "performers". (Apparently a clip, amongst many shown in court, of Richard doing his Ali G impersonation, clinched it.

I can see more than one serious reason why authors should not fall into the category of having agent fees disallowable as an expense deduction, but perhaps authors should start practising other things to include at author events, just in case?

In addition to performance poetry perhaps they should consider brushing up on their tango, singing and magic tricks?
